What is CNC turning?
CNC turning is a subtractive type of CNC machining where a rough piece of metal is spun at high speed and a cutting instrument revolves around it to cut away the excess material until the desired shape is achieved. The turning process allows for the manufacturing of a wide array of cylindrical or spherical parts, with high accuracy and consistency.
CNC turning uses the same principle as a common lathe, except the CNC machines are computer-controlled. CNC stands for Computer Numerical Control and refers to the manufacturing process of machined parts led by a computer program.
The process of CNC turning is also capable of: drilling, boring, taper turning.
Custom CNC turning allows a multitude of possibilities, from specific sizes and shapes, to the desired surface finishing for a specific look.
We supply turned parts to a wide range of industries.
- Machinery Manufacturing Industry
General machinery manufacturing relies heavily on CNC turned components for building industrial equipment, automation systems, and specialized machinery for various sectors. These parts ensure durability and performance under constant mechanical stress. Examples of parts: drive shafts and transmission components, bearings housings and bearing retainers, custom fasteners and threaded adapters, rotors and spacers for gearboxes or motor housings, guide pins and roller components.
- Automotive
In the automotive industry, CNC turned parts are vital for the machinery used in assembling, testing, or producing vehicle components. This includes tooling, jigs, and mechanical elements within assembly lines or robotic systems. Examples of CNC turned parts: spindles and shafts for robotic arms, threaded connectors and couplings for pneumatic systems, bushings and sleeves for press-fit or rotating systems, flanges and precision washers for assembly jigs.
- Aeronautics Industry
In aeronautics, CNC turned parts are crucial for building manufacturing equipment and structural elements used in aircraft production. These parts demand exceptional accuracy and are usually made from lightweight, high-strength materials. Examples of turned parts for the aeronautics industry: bushings and sleeves for assembly tooling, precision dowel pins and alignment pins for jigs and fixtures, shafts and actuators for riveting or panel-forming machines, custom nozzles and fittings for fuel or hydraulic line testing rigs.
- Agriculture Industry
The agriculture industry uses CNC turned parts in equipment like tractors, harvesters, irrigation systems, and feed processing machines. These parts must be rugged and corrosion-resistant to withstand outdoor conditions. Examples of turned parts for the agriculture industry: axles and pivot shafts for tilling or seeding machines, hydraulic cylinder ends and connectors, couplers and bushings for rotating equipment.
- Food Industry
CNC turned parts for the food industry are used in processing, packaging, and bottling machines. Stainless steel is the most common material due to its hygiene properties and corrosion resistance. Examples of CNC turned parts: sanitary fittings and pipe connectors, valve bodies and stems for dosing systems, rotating shafts and bushings for mixing equipment.
- Pharmaceutical Industry
In pharma, CNC turned parts are essential in machines used for mixing, compressing, filling, and packaging medications. Examples of CNC turned parts: precision pistons and plungers for tablet presses, stainless steel connectors and ferrules, housing and valve bodies for liquid filling systems, custom fasteners.
